Hangi

 Amazing Maori Culture

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

My name is Henry from marshland school, and today I will be showing you my work on Hangi past and present work.

The way a Hangi was prepared is that a hole was dug and food could be put in it, but now it is common to use a machine to cook a hangi.

Here is my work on Hangi past and future:

Thanks for reading this, if you have any feedback on different aspects of the Hangi please comment.

Golf Club Angle Science Experiment

 Golf Club Angle Science Experiment

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

Today I was working with Cooper on a science experiment to see if the angle of the golf club affects the distance the ball flys.

I and Cooper wrote our hypothesis, question, and then Cooper did our experiment using our procedure at the golf course.

Here's our experiment:

ISS-International Space Station

 ISS-International Space Station

Hello Fellow Bloggers

This week for literacy we have been working on a Minecraft world of the international space station or ISS, you can download it below.

The ISS was originally created by America, but more countries joined on like Canada, Russia, and Japan, main construction started in 1998, and finished in 2009, the final module was added in 2016 and was called the beam it was added by America.

Although this was the end of the main construction more is to be done on the space station in the future.

We all added our own modules onto the station and the one I added was for extra storage it was added near the back of the station and may be needed in the future if more astronauts join.

Heres the link to download the world: ISS World

Here is my research from the ISS about the order of which it all was created:

Coding Today

Coding  Today

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

Today we were working on coding, I created a stage about trees and how we are destroying them for our own benefit, and are not letting them live and thrive.

Trees are also being destroyed and in the prosses destroying habitats for animals that live there, and I think that this is very wrong and that humans shouldn't destroy these forests.

Here is my work (in Screenshots):

Acids and Bases-Science Report

Acids and Bases-Science Report

Hello Fellow Bloggers.
This week I was working on a science report for my literacy group, this science report was on Acids and Bases.
Next time I will try to elaborate further on this subject, so I can form better and more in-depth questions about this subject.

Here is my report:

Acids and Bases

Questions:

Some of my earlier questions were: Why are acids useful? When were acids found?
When are acids useful? Where would I look if I were looking for acids? Who discovered acids? What are acids? What is the most powerful acid ever? How are acids useful?

Research Summary:

I have Found out from my research that acids produce hydrogen ions, and bases produce hydroxide ions, this is how we can tell which are which, depending on the reaction.

pH levels are a way of measuring the amount of either acid, or bases in a solution, we can tell because the pH levels only go up to fourteen being that if the pH level is under seven it is high in Acid, and if it is higher than seven it is high in Bases.

Hypothesis

Chemical/ Product
Sprite
Ammonia
White Vinegar
Lemon Juice
Alcohol
(64%)
Baking Soda
Hypothesized pH

Materials:

Cabbage Juice, Chemicals/Product, beakers, pipettes, beaker stands, and rubber gloves.

Procedure:

We put the chemicals in the cabbage juice, depending on what the pH levels are, the color it changes into.

Observations/Results:

Observed pH

8
Actual pH

7.3

Observed Colour

Blue
Chemical/Product
Sprite
Ammonia
White Vinegar
Lemon Juice
Alcohol(64%)
Baking Soda

Discussion:

The results that I got were nowhere near the hypothesis I set at the start, from my research I answered some of my questions and I am glad to have a further understanding of acids and bases.

It was interesting to find out that ammonia was high in basic content, and that vinegar was also basic, so maybe I will explore deeper into why they are like this, so I can gain further knowledge on the subject of acids and bases.

I have formed more questions on bases and acids and what the different pH levels are, so I would love to explore deeper into this subject so that I can find out more.

Conclusion:

The result of my experiment shows the pH levels (which represent the levels of acid or bases in a substance, which usually is a liquid) I got were not the correct, but very similar to the proper results. I have answered some of my questions with the results I got, I now have new questions about acids and bases that I want to elaborate on for future work.

Thank you for reading and please remember to comment so I can do better next time.

Have you done a science report before?
How did you do this?

Space Tic Tac Toe

Space Tic Tac Toe

Hello Fellow Bloggers
For about a week now we have been working on space work and rockets, I am working with Luke.
We have been working on completing a Tic Tac Toe that displays lots of facts about space, I have completed a task that asks about everyday life in space, like how astronauts eat, sleep, and drink.
My friend Luke has completed a poster that covers all the main points about the moon landing.

Here is our work:

Here is my work on how astronauts live in space:

Southern Lights

Southern Lights

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

For a few weeks, we have been working on making a piece of art that relates to the Southern Lights, or the Aroura.

The Southern Lights are created when a solar wind is released from the sun, into the earth's magnetic field, which some particles get through, and merge together to create the colors we see in the sky.
Many cultures have beliefs about the Southern Lights like the Chinese believe that the lights are dragons fighting in the sky.

My piece of art is made by using a piece of paper that you rip until it is shaped like hills, then you tape it to a piece of black paper and splatter it with white paint to look like the stars. Then you paint streaks of paint on the edge of the white paper to make the lights. then you let it dry.

Here are my Southern Lights:

Binary Code

Binary code
Hello Fellow Bloggers.
Today I will be showing you my name in binary code.
If computers operate in binary, then how are we able to store letters and words? To do this, we assign numbers to characters. This is known as character encoding.
To understand how character encoding works, let's create a simple example. First, assign the numbers 1-26 to the English alphabet:
Eg.  A = 1        B = 2           C = 3
So, with just these three letters we can encode the word CAB as 312.
BUT to encode the entire English language, we need all of the symbols on your keyboard (and more, if you think about some of the shortcuts on your computer, such as Ctr + C to Copy).  This is WAY more than 26 letters.  The answer: Binary!
The great Engineers of the past realized they needed a system to contain all of the numbers, letters, punctuation, and other important symbols of the English language, and so they invented ASCII.  An encoding system that gives a Binary number to each symbol.
Here is my name in ASCII is: 1001000, 1000101, 1001110, 1010010, 1011001
Here are the steps to complete it:

Inqury-Pictures

Inquiry

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

Today I will be showing you this picture which represents some people's views on the world and how too many of the governments in countries like America, are spending their budgets on stuff like wars, when some big world problems could crumble a democracy from within its own walls.
This is just one of the many unsettling problems that are destroying our world with lethal speed, and ruthless power.
And these countries have leaders that couldn't even see to understand what is going on if they got some sense knocked into them, this mainly for the reason that their followers are just as clueless.

Interesting Irony

Irony
When you think of irony you probably think of some situation that is not even slightly related to what irony truly is.
The situational irony which is one of the three types of irony is shown when something unexpected happens like this comic strip I made with two friends of mine:

School This Week

School This Week

Hello Fellow Bloggers.

Some work we did this week was an article on the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, also a chapter summary, for chapters eleven to fifteen, also for maths, we completed two google slides of angles and coordinates on maps.
For Maori this week we are making a piece of art, with pastels on koru, and other Maori artwork designs like ferns.
I also completed a letter for the future generation which will be opened in two thousand and six two.
This was some of the work that we completed this week.
now that the lockdown is over and we can go to school we have more options, and we can see our teachers in person, so it is easier to do work.
It has been very fun to come back to school and see my friends again.
Here is my writing for the time capsule:
Dear Future Generation...

It happened very suddenly but still very destructively.  Today I am informing you from the year 2020, from the ending of a crisis pandemic that has helped shape the world both a little bit better and a little bit worse. It changed the world in many ways from what it was before the nastily destructive disease of Covid-19 decided to affect the world and take many lives that would have had the chance to live longer perhaps even better.  But this infuriatingly annoying parasite ended them. My name is Henry Robertson, age twelve.  I am currently explaining this to you from Marshland School, Christchurch, New Zealand.

This cataclysmic event has been the annoyance and disturbance of many otherwise peaceful lives.
But still even though it has been calamitous and fatal it has also given animals and plants the chance to regrow and heal from the destruction that we have caused to their lives in the form of climate change and even their habitats which we have laid waste to for our own luxuries that are not in any way vital to our immediate survival.

This plague is currently believed to have begun in Wuhan, China, possibly from the consumption of a bat or a snake,  and then spread rapidly across Europe taking many hundreds and eventually thousands of lives.
It spread further due to flying and other forms of international travel across many parts of the world and has resulted in many life losses peaking mainly in the country's which were last to react like the USA and Italy.
We were some of the first few to react and slowly contain the virus by using levels of quarantine to loosen the virus's control over us.  This was thanks to our amazing government and the speed they put us into lockdown to help slowly eliminate Covid-19.
Some countries did not have medical staff able to fight this disease nor the budget to help their country fight against it, this is why I am grateful to be a New Zealander.

In my personal opinion I felt very fearful when this illness put us into a long and panicked lockdown, but I knew our hardships would eventually let us gain our goal of eradicating this parasite. In fact, I felt very sure we had won the long war, but we had only just won the battle.
This is because we began our death toll which ended up much higher than thought originally, because those most vulnerable such as the elderly, or those suffering from other forms of sickness or disease got sick.
For Christucrch It all began in Rosewood rest home when one visitor passed the virus to an elderly person and then began New Zealand's deaths. I remember it starting slowly but killing off the elderly one by one until we had over twenty deaths which are nothing compared to other countries that had over twenty thousand but are still tragic.
The virus cases eventually reached zero per day and have mostly stayed that way ever since.

I am looking forward to sports beginning again and am still scared of the many horrible things that the world has endured. I hope that you readers are not, or never will have to suffer through as horridly destructive a time as this.
I am very grateful that I have survived this pandemic and I hope that this great country of New Zealand never again has to withstand such powerful casualties due to an enemy that is so small yet still so very destructive.

How is the world for you?
Are you going through something similar?
Are there still cars and boats?
How has the world changed from now(2020) till then?
Who is the prime minister?

Kind Regards Henry Robertson.

Here is the work I did:

Thank you for looking at my work, I think that I did okay but need to improve with my angles next time.
Thank you for reading my work and please leave a comment.
